Charleston, South Carolina

Kristen and Joss are looking forward for you to join them in Charleston, SC on June 17, 2011. They selected Charleston because of it's laid back and welcoming attitude, how easy it is to get around the city, and for the variety of things to do. Not to mention that the city has some of the best barbeque in the Lowcountry. Kristen and Joss's first 3 dates were at barbeque restaurants so including barbeque at the wedding was a must.

Kristen's family also vacationed in the South a lot and through those trips she fell in love many of the wonderful things the South had to offer: Spanish Moss, palmettos, azaleas soul food, shrimp and grits, rich history and "Piggly Wiggly." Charleston has all of these things as well as Pre-Revolutionary architecture that offers more than a nod to the US's ties with England. Joss noted that many of the streets in the historic district would have been at home in an English town.

The couple hopes that you'll enjoy walking in the historic downtown district, shopping on Kings Street, visiting plantation homes, going golfing, heading to beach and perhaps even touring Fort Sumter on the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. (Shout-out to Bob Jones!) We've included some tourism links on our Things to Do page that will give you some more information.

The Ceremony—The French Protestant Huguenot Church in Charleston

With it's abundance of churches, Charleston, is often called "The Holy City." Joss and Kristen have selected the French Huguenot Church in Charleston for their wedding ceremony. The church, first founded in 1681, is the is the only independent French Huguenot church left in America. The building, which dates back to 1845, survived bombardment during the Civil War and a severe earthquake in 1886. It is listed as a National Historic Landmark.

The church's address is
136 Church Street (Corner of Church and Queen Streets)
Charleston, SC 29401

The Reception—Boone Hall Plantation's Cotton Dock

Charleston is home to many private and public plantations. After visiting several, Joss and Kristen decided to have their reception at Boone Hall Plantation. The property is one of America's oldest working plantations. One of the most memorable features
of Boone Hall is its spectacular entranceway. In 1743, Major John Boone planted two rows of Live Oaks leading to the main house. This three-quarter-mile-long"Avenue of Oaks" came to symbolize Southern charm, hospitality and heritage. It is also one of the reasons the plantation is known as America's most photographed plantation. One photograph even inspired the rows of oak trees featured in Gone with the Wind.

The reception itself will be held in Boone Hall's Cotton Dock. The dock overlooks the gorgeous marshlands of the Lowcountry. It's rustic feel felt uniquely Charleston. Joss and Kristen can't wait until it's all decorated and filled with their friends and family.

Boone Hall's address is:
1235 Long Point Road
Mount Pleasant, SC 29464
(Located 8 miles from Downtown Charleston)
Phone (843) 884.4371
